PROJECTS AND COLLABORATIONS
DREAM CYCLE
Dream Cycle was in its original form a set of five pieces for male chorus, commissioned by the University of Illinois Varsity Men’s Glee Club and their director Dr. Barrington Coleman. Dr. Coleman and Steve collaborated on the selection of the text, ranging from works by Langston Hughes to William Ernest Henley to Robert Frost, and all sharing the overarching ‘dream’ theme.
Tenor Ben Jones, who Steve has collaborated with ever since their undergraduate days, then asked if the piece could be adapted for tenor and string quartet. The resulting adaptation was recorded by Ben and the Alexander String Quartet at Skywalker Sound outside of San Francisco.
